Italy

I’m not sure
what we’re doing
here
waiting for life to begin

saving money
writing poems
that no one reads

going to school
taking jobs
talking to our parents
watching CNN

the politicians say there are good guys
& bad guys
we spend a lot of money killing
bad guys

meanwhile
there’s Italy

we’d go there if we could
if our jobs would let us
or our boyfriends
or our budget

if we didn’t wonder
what we’d miss or
if it weren’t for
everything else

we’d be happier
in Italy,
right?
